August 21st saw the launch of Hope-Full foods. This is an exciting new project from our friends at the Hope Centre.
The first event for Hope-Full Foods saw the return of the pay-as-you-feel concept, with around 80 people coming to sample delicious three course meals, prepared by a team of cooks. The pay-as-you-feel restaurant aims to bridge the gap between food waste and food poverty, with all the food used otherwise destined for waste at our local supermarkets. The menu is unique, with NO prices. This means that the events are open and accessible to everyone in our community.
The event was a real success, with guests being treated to wholesome food and live music, with the Hope Centre’s dedicated band of volunteers pulling out all the stops behind the scenes . This created a lively (socially distanced) atmosphere at the Old Sunday School on Roe Street, which hosted the first event of this kind since our partnership was established.
For the first time we were able to run an event alongside the Hope Centre, as Scoop and Scales also opened our doors to the diners, with our full range of items available to purchase. It was wonderful to meet some new people and to begin to create the links between our work and the ethos behind the Hope Centre’s Hope-Full Foods programme.
Keep an eye out for similar events, including Cre8’s weekly surplus food grocery and follow the Hope Centre on social media or via their website for the release of more dates.
Your next chance to shop with us, will be our latest pop-up shop on Treacle Sunday, 30th August.
